Steel Wheel, hardwood farm gate coffee table

You may remember the wheels from a post I made ages ago - Gas Bottle Trolly - I finally realised an idea for the table.

Visiting the farm across the road where the farmer has been replacing old fences and gates I came across a hardwood gate lying in the grass. "Ahhh" I said to myself.

Well the timber sat int he garage for months next to the wheels. They must have had a conversation and conspired to get together - with my help.

Coffee table - Pallet, casters and a slightly difrent look

I enjoy pallets
To up-cycle and recycle
To do up and to Build
Something not quite perfect
In a world obsessed with perfection

Cracked and bent

2 Seater Deck Chair - Pallets again.

Update for the two seater... it is now red and has a red companion table.

This 2 seater is a little different to the first one and there was a weight bearing issue due to the fact that pallet used for the seat is orientated 90 degrees, so I reinforced it with a capping on the front which sorted the bending issue straight away. Bla bla.

Another 3 Legged Stool

Old fence posts found on Blacks Beach for legs and a piece of log also found on Blacks Beach.

Iconic with castors... of course.

The ABC beer crate is iconic in NZ especially when it come to Lion Red and DB. I came into possession of the crates - must keep the source under wraps - and have been making all manner of things from them. This coffee table is the latest crack at something useful... with castors.

Houlihan - fine legged retro grunge

Finding good legs is not easy. Whilst on a small trip to pick up our new dog Stanley, we stopped in at a few second -had establishments in Woodville. That is where I found the legs.

The table top needs no explanation other than it needed rebuilding and sanding.

Hooks and old wood

I like the shape of coat hooks and their functionality. There are so many uses. And beside the bed, they can be a place to hang necklaces.

There is something engaging about old wood. Old worn, painted wood.

Put it all together and there is something both useful and interesting.

OMG - Rustic Shelving Ugly Thing

I was inspired to attempt a rustic piece of furniture - a mix of driftwood and manufactured wood.

There is a stack of ABC boxes in my garage - the ones that DB Brown come in. I thought that this could be good for the experiment.

The boxes make very good shelves and - well, the drift wood legs hold it all up. The boxes are white washed to let the stenciling come through.

Kauri Coffee Table - on Castors

The colour is so warm and the nail just makes it I recon
Many years back I was living in the Waikato... finishing my Psych degree. I answered an advert in the local rag selling a stack of old wood. A carpenter had recently passed away and had left the basement full of; his widows wife explained, "bloody stacks of the stuff and I don't know what to do with it!"

Amongst many finds I picked up a stack of Kauri. At 145 x 50mm it was the perfect sized timber to make something solid and lasting. I immediately imagined a table - coffee table of course.

The timber was rough sawn and needed a great deal of time on the belt sander. After it was put together I threw on tons of beeswax and linseed oil with steel wood. Steel wool makes the surface so soft.

The castors was an obvious choice. I like Castors.

Pallet Coffee Table

On Casters no less.

Obviously this is a pallet that has been upscaled to a coffee table. This is not a new idea by any means... just throw pallet coffee table into google and there they are... thousands of them. Regardless, I love the idea and once again it is turning the proverbial 'firewood' into something useful.

This one is pine and has had a light sand on the top. I added fillets of timber to fill the gaps on the lid and a block to each corner to lift the table up for the casters.

Obviously it could be painted, stenciled or what-have-you. It has been sold :-)
